Nolan Swift, 81

To the fallen friend of Jim Shampine.. a fellow racing great

Nolan Swift   
March 27, 2004 Nolan Swift, 81, of Camillus, died Saturday at home. Born in Taylorville, IL, he lived in Syracuse before moving to Camillus. He was a graduate of Eastwood High School and an Army veteran of W.W. II. Owner and president of Swift's Refrig-eration Service, he retired in 2000 after 50 years. Nolan is in the Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame for his achievements racing in the super-modified division, mostly at Oswego Speedway. An avid hockey player, he was a center for the Syracuse Rockets and was instrumental in building a hockey arena in Eastwood. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling to Colorado for elk hunting. Surviving are his wife, the former Judy E. House; daughter, Sandra E. Downey of Mooresville, NC; sons: Rob E. Swift and Richard L. Swift, both of Camillus, and Wayne D. Swift of North Syracuse; stepsons: Jody M. Mento of Liverpool, James C. Mento of Boston, MA, and Donald C. Malay of Syracuse; stepdaughter, Jennifer L. Mento of Camillus; sister, Ruth Semon of Syracuse; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Norma Christie. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Camillus First United Methodist Church, 12 Genesee St. Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 West Genesee Street, Camillus. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Camillus. Contributions may be made to Hospice of CNY, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool, NY 13088-6148 or to S.P.C.A., 5878 E. Molloy Rd., Mattydale, NY 13211.
